Ideas for Hamara Bharat

Better to DO something rather than just observe.

Got inspired to contribute something after seeing this post on Petrol From Plastic:
Simply awesome research on Plastic Recycling by Alka Zadgaonkar : http://www.rexresearch.com/zadgnkar/zadgnkar.htm

Got this from a post in Chitrapur Saraswat group by Satish Kulkarni. Suggested him to follow up on mygov.in. Now following my own advice!! :-D

Invitation to join MyGov.in :
One of the few times I'm sharing something on this group which is a bit off-topic.
However I believe that the members of this group can contribute a LOT to our nation.
Hence the post.

Many times we crib that government is not doing anything or listening to us.
This is our chance to be heard as well as to contribute something to India's development.

1) Do-It-Yourself Video requires some additional solutions for scaling. I'm already working on such a solution since last few months using off-the-shelf components and custom code.
2) Pre-existing Broadband Areas can be targeted first.
3) Of course need to learn from feedback loop to improve working model and add missing pieces.
4) Tie-ups with industry in terms of outsourcing and technical help can be taken up.

As told in Verghese Kurien's book "I too had a dream" - India once used to import milk powder but AMUL and other cooperative dairies have long since captured the market.
Take help from AMUL and it's Marketing Federation to develop cooperative societies in other industries and market the products in India and world-over. This allows people to stay in villages and learn skills with good income earning. Currently cooperative societies are in decline due to under-handed deals by private players.

Alibaba-like Small Business Startup : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID5I884KuDE

Find and nurture IT start-ups which try to adapt alibaba-like model to Indian conditions. The big IT companies only believe in body-shopping so taking their inputs might very well be counter-productive. Replicate the accessibility to small indian businesses and cottage industries and cooperative societies.

Task - "Using Mobile Phones as Instruments for Digital Identity" :
Mobile phones as identifying devices is highly problematic as it is very easy to misuse it for tracking citizens movements and infringe on their right to privacy. The security/validity/abuse of Aadhaar database has already been called into question in the runup to the 2014 elections... this digital identity goes far far beyond Aadhaar so don't see how it's even justified to ask such a question without addressing basic issues. Surprisingly didn't see any objection by others on the task!!

Discussion CleanGanga/GreenIndia:
Floating bed of Indian Khus Grass (vetiver) cleans up Manila river : http://www.takepart.com/article/2014/06/03/floating-grass-billboard-can-suck-pollution-out-filthy-rivers
Why not Ganga river cleanup as well. The grass itself is native to India.

It cleans up 30,000 Litres of water peer day.
The grass traps debris and absorbs nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals like lead, and agricultural chemicals from water.

Recently Nitin Gadkari announced plans to (effectively) plant a tree every 3 metres in 4 rows.

Seems like Afforestt is the solution he had in mind to answer all the doubting-thomases in that article.

 Afforestt Natural Tiny Forests:
  1. Zero maintenance natural forest in just 2 years.
  2. Even small pieces of empty space are usable.
  3. Uses vertical space instead of horizontal space.
  4. Uses cheap, local and waste materials.
  5. Light watering (half of lawn) for first 2 years.
  6. Recharge Water Table due to Forest.
  7. Reduce Landslides along roads and rivers.
  8. Increase soil fertility by reducing erosion and acting as a wind-break
  9. Increase water retention by increasing shady areas (esp. around lakes and rivers)
  10. Encourages Natural Local species of plants, animals, insects and birds with high biodiversity.
  11. 100 year old forest in just 10 years.
  12. 10 times faster growth than conventional planting.
  13. Can be used in urban areas or as fruit sources in farms.
  14. 30 trees per 100 sft. instead of 1 trees/100 sft.
  15. Tiny Forest in apartments can absorb grey water.
  16. Afforresstt adapts Akira Miyawaki's Japanese methodology to work in tiny spaces.
  17. Afforestt is planning to release their methodology as open-source for anybody to implement and refine.

LocalCircles  "Transform India with Modi" : https://www.localcircles.com/a/home
Topic "Real Estate Sectors - Inputs on Solutions"Root Causes the Solutions are obvious.

1) Non-Level Playing Field :
Government rules are in favour of builders instead of common-man with latest move to use ETF's and already relaxed grading norms for loans to real estate.

2) Hoarding of Real Estate :
Prices are artificially hiked by builders keeping the apartments either empty or rented out at very high rates. Since builder cartel determines market-rate tenants have no go but to pay up. If rent is as high as EMI people prefer buying (on loan) to renting.

3) Inducements :
Easy extended home loans and carrot of deduction against loan by Government.

4) Pyramid Schemes for financing :
Builders use Pyramid schemes. New projects finance old unfinished projects. Since this is a non-sustainable chain reaction sooner or later market will crash even if Govt. rules helps out Builders by ensuring a non-level playing field.

5) Redirect investments from Housing :
Govt. should encourage 50% people to rent houses instead of buying homes. This will ensure that money is not locked up totally in real-estate (black money) and is used for nation-building instead. For this house owners should feel safe about letting out their house with good tenancy laws.

6) Denying Equal Access to Information :
Brokers, Builders and Owners control information on rentals (even in online sites). Thus they are able to deny access and hike prices. Earlier To-Let boards were common, today apartment managers, security people deny any empty houses even if more than 50% houses are vacant for years. 1.5 year interest-free "security deposit" is the norm (at least in Bangalore)
